Academic Programming
Marinette Primary School is designed with children in mind. Our goal is to support the development of the whole child and to provide a safe, nurturing environment in which children will grow socially, emotionally, intellectually, and physically. Our dedicated, caring staff design engaging, developmentally appropriate, hands-on learning opportunities to meet the needs and interests of our learners. We partner with and engage our students’ families by offering additional learning opportunities to parents and guardians.
Screening
The Early Childhood Screening Team of the Marinette School District provides a developmental screening as a service to the families of young children who live within the school district boundaries. The developmental screening checks on a child’s overall development and determines if the child may need more testing or services before kindergarten. For further information concerning a developmental screening, please contact our office at 715-735-2500.
Modern Learning
At Marinette Primary School, our students engage in modern learning through experiences and environments which allow for student choice, exploration, creative expression, problem solving, practice of school-readiness skills, technology, and growth across domains (social-emotional, motor, cognitive). These hands-on experiences foster the development of the whole child and prepare our students for success today and in the future.
Reading and Writing
Readers Workshop and Writers Workshop are two methods of instruction that make learning relevant and mastering new skills fun! Both methods of instruction involve the teacher providing direct instruction; children growing through individual conferences and feedback; and each child making progress toward increasingly higher skills. We know not everyone learns at the same pace. Therefore, reading and math intervention services are provided to students needing extra support.
Math
Engaging in a variety of strategies we begin to develop critical thinkers and problem solvers. As we build a strong foundation of numeracy skills, students also begin to engage in meaningful mathematics conversations to deepen conceptual understanding, strengthen procedural fluency, enhance their reasoning skills, and justify their strategies. We build the foundation so that all students can achieve a high level of mathematics proficiency.
Science
Our science curriculum is designed to develop young students’ curiosity and inspire them to be tomorrow’s explorers where the foundations of great scientific inquiry begin. Aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), our science curriculum drives student engagement and spurs inquisitive minds to consider, question, collaborate, and create while interweaving literacy to strengthen communication and scientific understanding.
Social Studies
The social studies curriculum focuses on the students' place in the world (self and identity) as well as understanding the world (perspective and culture). Students focus on "How do I see the world?" and "How do people get along?"
Supporting each child with a well-rounded educational program
Students in full-day 4K, 5K and 1st grade have a 45-minute daily rotation of art, music, physical education and library. Students in half-day 4K have a 30-minute rotation of music, physical education and library. Additionally, all students will have access to individualized support to advance their learning throughout the school day. Teachers add physical movement, positive behavior recognition, and social-emotional skills to each day to help children learn and grow! Activities through-out the year encourage families to partner with the schools to help all students experience success.
Special Services
Special services are available to all identified children and are an integral part of the academic and social emotional learning.
Assessments
Children enter preschool with a wide range of experience and knowledge, and they each develop at their own pace. To plan activities that are appropriate for each child, teachers constantly observe and record our children’s changing abilities. We need to know what individual children can already do and what they are ready to learn.
